Episode 13: Riana H-T - Crip Rave Theory

For this week’s episode of outsider, I speak with Riana Head Toussaint.
 
An artist, lawyer and DJ based in Eora, she’s passionate about community, club culture, and inclusivity. She’s also the founder of Crip Rave Theory, an intersectionally accessible rave event breaking new ground in the Sydney scene. We discuss disability, her escape from law into art full-time, and what we’re each feeling passionate about at the moment.

Episode 12: Lynn Tran

For this week’s episode of Outsider I sat down with Lynn Tran, who DJs under the moniker of fukhed.
A Brisbanite who's recently moved to Sydney, Lynn is a DJ and aspiring producer who recently won the AIAIAI x HÖR Berlin DJ Mix Challenge, and flew over to record a mix in the iconic bathroom.
While she's now focusing on DJing, Lynn has previously worked in both music marketing and international fashion buying and production. She regards these roles as both enriching and challenging, and a common theme in Lynn's stories is bringing past lessons learned into her approach to new projects.
We discuss the challenges we face in the pursuit of creative fulfillment, and compare notes on the reality of working in full-time corporate creative roles.

I sit down with Georgia Treloar, Senior Graphic Designer at Untitled Group. We map out her journey, which began with a rural upbringing in the Pilbara in Western Australia and has culminated in her current role shaping the art direction for festivals such as Pitch Music & Arts, Beyond the Valley and Wildlands.In the world of commercial creativity Georgia is a special case, with no complete formal qualification in graphic design. Georgia’s background is in architecture and mural painting, however the common thread along her career has always been a commitment to ambition, excellence and self-development.

I sit down with Kayla Moon, the creative powerhouse behind floral design studio X Flos. She’s also one half of Stay Soft Studio, the cool kids co-working space and monthly market at Colingwood Yards.In the few years since her floristry practice was established, Kayla has dreamed up breathtaking botanical installations in every kind of space, from getting their start at a Wax’o Paradiso event to recently presenting a large-scale installation at the NGV.Get to know the mind behind X Flos, as we discuss Kayla's upbringing, creative process, and why she's still obsessed with flowers.

While Mulalo is best known as a rapper, she has a background in fine art, DJing, and photography. We discuss life, music, and what's coming next.

I sit down with Ralph, a Naarm-based creative who works across fashion styling, DJing and digital marketing.
We discuss culture, kinship, creativity and gender, while reflecting on the creative scene in Melbourne and formative moments from our own lives.

Episode 6: DJ Lady Erica - Dr Erica Myers-Davis

For Episode 6 of Outsider Thread I speak with Dr Erica Myers-Davis, also known as DJ Lady Erica. A polymath with a penchant for vinyl, Erica's experience and expertise spans across creative industry, academia and social enterprise.
Erica is a fundraising specialist and board member of multiple charitable organisations supporting the creative industry across the Asia-Pacfic. Erica is also a part of the Carribean Commission for transatlantic slave trade reparations, and has published a book on the role of indigenous and ethnic people in World War Two.

Episode 5: Claddy

For Episode 5 of Outsider I spoke with Claddy, a Naarm (Melbourne) based DJ, musician and events organiser. As a career creative whose work spans multiple genres and mediums, she had a lot of wisdom to share.I found Claddy's abundance mindset and passion for advocacy to be incredibly inspiring; she's a person with both an immense depth of character and creativity.

For the latest episode of Outsider Thread I spoke with Jamie Timony – actor, writer, podcaster, musician and funnyman. We discuss his life’s work and the experiences that shaped him into the beautiful person he is today. We also discuss our mutual experiences with mindfulness, partying and Melbourne's thrumming social arts scene.
